Darling, nothing ever goes exactly how you planned it I guess I've been here long enough to see, that time can be your dearest friend or time can be a bandit, when tomorrow changes into history. and oh my my, honey everybody dies but you got, you got to see that you can live your life walking in a straight line... but it's more than just A to B. Maybe it'll find you lying peaceful under blankets or bleeding at the bottom of the stairs, oh but it's not when or how you go it's life and what you make it. It's the traveling, not the road that gets you there. Oh my my, honey everybody dies but you got, you got to see... that you can live your life walking in a straight line, but it's more than just A to B. So when those funeral drums are rumbling like some slow and steady thunder, I'll say my last goodbyes and walk away. I'll step into the river, let the current pull me under and just fall into that infinite embrace. And oh my my, honey everybody dies but you got, you got to see... that you can live your life walking in a straight line, but it's more than just A to B.

Kenley Brianne Conlan (nee; Aucoin) was unique. Unlike the rest of the females in her family, her name wasn’t one that was passed down; her mother thought a change was needed, something new, something pretty, she wanted a name that their little girl would be proud to introduce herself as, she wanted something different. The name Kenley came out of no where, it was just a name that popped into her mothers head one morning, and she swears up and down that it’s what brought on her labor because no sooner did she write the name down on a piece of paper did her water break.

On May 5th, in Paris, Tennessee, Kenley Brianne was born quietly into the world. As some might have found that as an omen into the little girls future, it was quite the opposite as she was anything but quiet. Kenley developed an opinion very early on, realizing just how much she liked the word ‘no’ and the phrase ‘I think…’ for a long time, growing up she rarely had a sentence come out of her mouth that didn’t start with either of those. Kenley didn’t care if someone didn’t want to hear what she had to say, she was going to say it anyway, it was just how children were, and Kenley was every bit of a child. Kenley’s childhood was one out of a storybook, she had all the kids in her neighborhood to play with and they had a huge field on the other side of the road, yes Kenley had an ideal childhood.

Until she turned 10. That’s when the fighting started, her picture perfect parents, well they were anything but. Every night it was something new, some stupid little detail, and some ridiculous accusation blown way to out of proportion. By the time she was 15, Kenley had had enough, she was sick of the arguing; of listening to her mother cry and her father throw things, so she said what they had all been thinking for the past 5 years. She told them to just get it over with and separate, what normal child would tell their parents that? But she was done, she was 15 going on 25 and sick of it, she hated what her parents did to each other and if they weren’t going to accept it, then she was going to do it for them. And a few short months later, her father moved out.

Throughout high school, Kenley tended to keep to herself, she had her group of friends, but it was rare that she ever went out on a date. She had seen her parents go from a couple so much in love, to two people ripping each other down to nothing, and she wanted no part of that if that was what happened when people were in love. Yes, she was jaded, but she had every right to be, at least in her mind she did. She never wanted to be that girl crying in the locked bathroom, listening to the front door as it slammed shut, and the gravel as it flew through the air when the guy she supposedly loved peeled out of the driveway. No, she wanted no part of love.

After graduation, Kenley stayed in Tennessee, attending a community college, truthfully, she had no idea what she wanted to do with her life, but she had to keep busy, keep herself out of the house where she could easily drive herself insane. The ranch, a place she had grown to love, adore, a place she loved to call home, had long since been anything close to a home, and it wasn’t until she was 19 that she decided she needed to leave. A few places came to mind, California seemed like it was a good choice, but her ventures brought her instead to Texas. Knowing she’d have a place to go when she got there, she packed her car and and a good half a day later, she was in Houston, Texas. Kenley never would have expected anything she got when she moved away from home, she had quit school and moved to a very unfamiliar place, and she stuck out like a sore thumb.

A sore thumb with an innocent face, yes Kenley definitely did not fit in. For a while, she thought about just going home, she didn’t get that much attention back home, she was normal back home. For months, she thought about this, until she met him. From the moment Daniel stepped into her life, or rather, she stepped into his-- she was thrown into a whirlwind. This boy turned Kenley’s world upside down in quite possibly the best way. Daniel brought her out of her shell, he taught her that life was for the living, that it was okay to speak your mind and to be spontaneous and before she knew it, she had fallen for the boy. It was almost a year before Kenley and Daniel finally became something serious, and serious they were. Kenley had fallen head over heels in love with him, and him vice versa. Before long, she had turned into the girl that everyone thought she would be. She wasn’t that girl in the background anymore, she had a voice, she had an opinion again… she was happy and something she never thought she would be… in love.

They were together for nearly 3 years and everyone was so sure, there was no end for the pair that eventually they’d get married and that would be that. That was when Kenley began to wonder, or well, that was when Kenley’s cousin started to put the thought into her head, that maybe Daniel wasn’t the one, how would she have known otherwise? She didn’t date; she hadn’t dated before meeting Daniel, how did she know that she wasn’t meant to be with someone else. It took everything Kenley had in her to walk away from Daniel and their relationship but she was convinced that she needed to do this, she needed to see if maybe there was something else she was missing, be it a thing, or a person, she didn’t know exactly but something was missing and she needed to find out what. He understood, or he said he did anyway, but she knew that she was breaking his heart a million times over. Kenley and Daniel didn’t lose contact, in fact they’re still as close as they were before, neither one of them wanting to let the other go, Kenley still loved him, but when she left him, she promised to herself that when and if they got back together, it would be because she didn’t need to look anymore, that she was able to give him everything she was, give him her whole heart without hesitation. It was just the way it had to be.

It was almost a year before Kenley and Daniel got back together. If asked, Kenley still doesn’t regret the decision she made the year before, because although she knows how much it hurt Daniel, and how much she herself was hurting, the two of them learned more about each other than they ever imagined. Kenley was able to not only open up more to Daniel about her past and herself, but she let him into the one place she had been most afraid to show him. Her home. Tennessee. It was after that trip that they got back together and on Christmas day in 2009, Daniel proposed to Kenley at his parents’ house in front of their friends, his parents and Gram. The answer was yes, of course and it finally felt like her life was going right for her. The two were married September 25, 2010 on the beach not far from the spot they call their own, and now with a new chapter of their lives started, Kenley couldn’t be happier where things have led her to and there’s not a day that passes that she doesn’t thank the lord for everything she has.
